I've been asked by people on more than one occasion how in today's world can I do the job I do and I tell you what. I along with most of the Gamekeepers, Stalkers and Water Bailiffs know that we make a huge difference to the countryside.
From the cutting back of hedgerows and riverbanks, out in all weathers, to clearing roads and public rights of way.
Who do the police call when there's an RTC involving Deer? The Gamekeeper.
Who looks after the moorland habitat for both the Red Grouse and the Red Deer and all the other animals that choose to make it there home? The Gamekeeper.
.................................and that's only to name a few.
Hunting is still a very popular sport all over the world. Deer stalking is very popular and can be found at fairly good prices. For the novice that wants a days stalking to see what they think I would recommend a day at the hinds as it's a bit less nerve racking for your first shot than a stag that's roaring at what (feels like you) 100 yards or so. If you take a days stalking you will be advised by the deer stalker on the day of rifle safety and general safety on the hill as it can become very tough work very quickly as the weather out there can change on you in an instant and therefore correct clothing is a must , you may also be asked to go over some risk assessments to ensure that you know the risks while you are out there on the hill. However once you have shot your first beast I think you will find yourself with a bug that you cant get rid of !!
